Right now, my legs feel like Jello because of this staircase! I'm not sure why I ever thought that I had the stamina to run it after not really exercising during my pregnancy… AND when I'm still not used to the altitude. Dios mío. Of course, my fit husband basically ran it with ease. I did see him struggling towards the top, but that was after he ran a majority of it like a gazelle. Both of us agree that this would be a great way to prep for any sort of ruck march (Hmm, Bataan Memorial Death March?)
If you're up for a challenge and can gain access to the "active duty" side of the base (through the South Gate), the bottom of the staircase is located near the Pine Valley housing; the top is behind the Youth Center. According to the Air Force Academy homepage, there's a total of 300 steps. The steps are pretty uneven, as you would expect to see on a trail. So, no wonder my legs hurt. Regardless, I'm not going to be defeated by these stairs, so I'll being running it a bit more often!!
